Why AI agents need micropayments

· The Prutify team

AI agents can now plan, write and work through long task lists on their own. But the moment an agent needs something it can’t produce itself, it hits a wall: live market data, a flight search, a paywalled article, a company record, a few seconds of GPU time, a text message sent to a real phone.

Those things cost money to provide. And today there’s no simple way for an agent to pay for them.

Cards were never built for this

A single weather lookup might be worth $0.002. A typical card payment carries a fixed fee of around 30 cents before any percentage. The fee alone is about 150 times the price.

So most services that agents would happily pay for end up doing one of two things: give it away, or force a monthly subscription that doesn’t fit how agents actually work, in bursts, across many services, a little at a time.

Tiny payments add up

One call at $0.002 is nothing. A thousand calls is $2. A million calls, from thousands of agents each paying for exactly what it used, is $2,000. Micropayments turn small units of value into real revenue, without asking anyone to commit to a plan up front.

What Prutify does

Prutify lets service providers charge AI agents per use, down to a fraction of a cent:

  • You set a price per call, per result, per page or per second.
  • Agents pay as they go from prepaid wallets their owners fund in regular money, inside budgets, allowlists and spend caps.
  • You get paid out in your own currency, and every payment is on record.

It works with the protocols agents already use, x402 and MCP, and nobody needs crypto.

If an agent can use it, you can charge for it.

We’re opening early access to service providers first. If you run something agents could pay for, join the waitlist, and we’ll be in touch when there’s a spot for your service.
